Frequently Asked Questions about Darts
What is Score Darts?
Score Darts is a free online darts scorer and point counter. It runs in your browser on smartphone, tablet and desktop, with no download and no mandatory sign-up. You can play 301, 501 and Cricket, solo or in teams.
How do you score in darts?
On a standard English dartboard, each numbered segment is worth between 1 and 20 points. The outer ring doubles the value, the inner ring triples it, the outer bull counts 25 and the Bullseye 50. In 301 or 501, you subtract the points scored on each 3-dart throw until reaching exactly zero. A digital scorer like Score Darts automatically calculates the score and suggests checkout combinations.
What is the difference between 301 and 501?
Both games follow exactly the same rules: start from an initial score and bring it back to zero, usually with the requirement to finish on a double (Double Out). The only difference is the starting score: 301 points for a quick format, 501 points for the official format used in professional competition (PDC, WDF).
What is a bust in darts?
A bust occurs when a throw would make the score go negative, leave it at 1 point (impossible to finish on a double), or end without hitting a double in Double Out mode. The entire volley is cancelled and the player's score reverts to what it was at the start of the turn. Score Darts automatically detects busts on every throw.
What is a 9-darter?
A 9-darter (or "nine-dart finish") is a game of 501 finished in only 9 darts — the mathematical minimum. It is considered the ultimate achievement in darts, extremely rare even at professional level: only a few dozen have been recorded in televised tournaments since 1984.
How do you play Cricket in darts?
In Cricket, you only play the numbers 15 through 20 and the Bull. You must "close" each number by hitting it 3 times (a single counts 1, a double counts 2, a triple counts 3). Once a number is closed by a player, any additional hits on that number add to their score — as long as opponents haven't closed it too. The winner is the player who closes all their numbers with the highest score.
Do I need an account to use Score Darts?
No, you can start playing immediately without an account: enter the player names and launch the game. A free account is useful though to access detailed statistics, sync games across multiple devices, and use the Tracker mode designed for electronic dartboard machines.
Is Score Darts really free?
Yes, Score Darts is 100% free, with no ads, no in-app purchases, and no personal data reselling. The app works in your browser, and native iOS and Android versions are in preparation.
